Emotional content must exist within the spatial and formal structure of the painting itself - not in the narrative - to allow for the temporal transference and emotional journey of the viewer. From early life we all use our imaginations to recreate and navigate the worlds we inhabit - like creating a 'staged box' within the perceived 'real box'. My paintings are a study of this conscious/unconscious process.
